There are mainly 2 ways to adjust the temperature. The first and the easiest way is to use the remote control. There are Cold and Hot buttons to increase and decrease the temperature. And the other way is by using the DIP switches.

Well, the temperature adjustment guide is slightly different for different models of Takagi water heaters. I know you are a bit confused now but you won’t be after going through this article. How to Adjust Takagi Tankless Water Heater Temperature? (Regular Models)

Below I’ll be adding a step-by-step guide on adjusting the Takagi Tankless Water Heater Temperature.

This one simple guide will cover most of the Takagi Tankless Water Heater models. Where there are differences in process, I’ve mentioned the following model names. 

Step 1: Power On the Unit

Before adjusting the temperature, make sure the Takagi tankless water heater is connected to a 120 VAC power supply. This ensures the unit is ready to be adjusted.

Step 2: Turn On the Controller

Now, press the “ON/OFF” button on the controller to turn it on. When the controller is turned on, you’ll see a light called the STAND BY LED. This light means the unit is in standby mode and ready for your adjustments

Step 3: Set the Desired Temperature

The controller will display the current temperature setting. You can adjust this setting to your desired temperature:

• Press the “HOT” button to increase the temperature.
• Press the “COLD” button to decrease the temperature.

Caution: Note that higher temperatures come with an increased risk of scalding, so be cautious when setting the temperature. Even at 120 °F (50 °C), hot water can scald.

i) Increasing Temperature Beyond 120 °F (50 °C)

If you need to set the temperature higher than 120 °F (50 °C), follow the below steps:

1. Ensure the water heater is in stand-by mode.
2. Now, press the “HOT” button to set it to 120 °F (50 °C).
3. Press and hold the “INFO” button and the “HOT” button for at least 3 seconds. The controller will emit a beep and change to 125 °F (52 °C).
4. You can now press the “HOT” button to set the temperature up to 140 °F (60 °C).

If you have the 540P Indoor/Outdoor model or 140 Indoor/Outdoor model, you can follow the same process.

ii) Increasing Temperature Above 140 °F (60 °C): For 540HX3/510CX3 Model

According to the user manual of 540HX3 and 510CX3, you can increase the temperature up to 160 °F (70 °C.)  So, if you need to increase the temperature above 140 °F (60 °C) for specific applications, follow these steps:

1. Make sure your heater is in StandBy mode.
2. Press the “HOT” button, setting it to 140 °F (60 °C).
3. Hold down the “INFO” and “HOT” buttons for at least 3 seconds. The controller will beep and switch to 145 °F (63 °C).
4. You can then press the “HOT” button to increase the temperature to a maximum of 160 °F (70 °C).

Temperature Settings on the PCB (Without Remote Controller)

In this part, I’ll explore the temperature settings on the PCB of your Takagi tankless water heater. When you don’t have a remote controller you can use this method.

Takagi tankless water heaters without a remote controller offer two preset temperature options: 120 °F (50 °C) and 140 °F (60 °C). These temperatures can be chosen by configuring the DIP switch settings on the computer board.

01. Changing the Temperature Setting

Follow these steps to adjust the temperature setting:

i) For 240HX3/340HX3/310CX3

1. Locate the DIP switch labeled ‘No. 9’ on the lower bank of DIP switches.
2. To set the temperature to 120 °F (50 °C), make sure ‘No. 9’ is in the OFF position.
3. To select 140 °F (60 °C), switch ‘No. 9’ to the ON position.

ii) For 540HX3/510CX3

1. On the lower bank of DIP switches, find the switch labeled ‘No. 5.’
2. To set the temperature to 120 °F (50 °C), ensure ‘No. 5’ is OFF.
3. To set the temperature to 140 °F (60 °C), turn ‘No. 5’ to the ON position.

Follow the same process if you have got the 540P Indoor /540POutdoor model

Remote Controller Priority: If you have both DIP switch settings and a remote controller, keep in mind that the set temperature on the remote controller takes precedence over the DIP switch settings. The remote controller provides an additional layer of control and convenience.

• Only adjust the specific DIP switches that match your model and desired temperature. Do not touch any other DIP switches.
• Before you start, turn off the power to your water heater.
• Ignoring these warnings can be extremely dangerous and may lead to carbon monoxide exposure, severe injuries, or even fatal accidents. 

How To Adjust Takagi Gas Tankless Water Heater Temperature: 910/910 ASME Models

If you own a 910 or 910 ASME model, you can easily adjust the temperature to meet your specific needs. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process step by step.

Step 1: Power On the Unit

Start by turning on the 120V AC power supply to the unit. This ensures the water heater is ready for adjustments.

Step 2: Activate the Controller

Press the “ON/OFF” button on the controller to turn it on. When the controller is active, you’ll notice that the STAND BY LED is lit. Additionally, the display will show the current temperature setting for the water output.

Step 3: Set Your Desired Temperature

Use the “HOT” button or the “COLD” button on the controller to adjust the temperature setting of the unit. Here’s how to increase the temperature from the default setting of 120 °F (50 °C) to 140 °F (60 °C):

1. First, press the “HOT” button to set the temperature to 120 °F (50 °C).
2. Next, press and hold the “INFO” button and the “HOT” button simultaneously for at least 3 seconds. You’ll hear a beep, and the temperature will change to 125 °F (52 °C).
3. Finally, press the “HOT” button again to increase the temperature to your desired level, up to 140 °F (60 °C).

i) Increasing Temperature Beyond 140 °F (60 °C)

If you need to set the temperature above 140 °F (60 °C), follow these additional steps:

1. Press the “HOT” button to set the temperature to 140 °F (60 °C).
2. Press and hold the “INFO” button and the “HOT” button for at least 3 seconds. You’ll hear a beep, and the temperature will change to 145 °F (63 °C).
3. Press the “HOT” button again to adjust the temperature up to either 175 °F (80 °C) or 185 °F (85 °C). However, for these higher temperatures, you must set your water heater to High Temperature Mode.

Step 4: Switching to High-Temperature Mode As Default

So, would you like to set the default temperature mode to a higher temp? It’s possible and I tried it a few times. To change your remote controller’s mode from Default mode to High-Temperature mode, follow these steps:

1. First, turn off the power to the remote controller by pressing the “ON/OFF” button.
2. Now, simultaneously press and hold both the “HOT” and “COLD” buttons together for at least 5 seconds. After that, check if you see “1” (or “0” for Easy-Link System or Multi-Unit System) on the remote controller’s display.
3. Press the “TIME” button. Check if the remote controller shows “OFF” and “F1.”
4. Press either the “HOT” or “COLD” button to change the display to “F3.”
5. Press the “INFO” button, and make sure “°F” blinks.
6. Press either the “HOT” or “COLD” button to switch the display to “°C.”
7. Press both the “BUZZER” button and the “INFO” button at the same time to confirm the setting.
8. Ensure the display is no longer blinking.
9. Press the “ON/OFF” button to complete the setup.
10. Turn on the power to the remote controller by pressing the “ON/OFF” button again.

1. To set the temp to 100 °F (38 °C): Ensure the labeled ‘No. 1” DIP switch is on and the ‘2’ and ‘3’ are on the OFF position.
2. To set the temp to 145 °F (63 °C): Keep the ‘No.1 and 2’ DIP switches ON and ‘No. 3’ DIP switch OFF position.
3. To set the temp to 115 °F (46 °C): Keep the ‘No.1 and 3’ DIP switches OFF and ‘No. 2’ ON.
4. To set the temp to 155 °F (68 °C): Ensure the ‘No.1 and 3’ DIP switches are ON and ‘No. 2’ is OFF.
5. To set the temp to 120 °F (50 °C): Ensure the ‘No.1,2, and 3’ DIP switches are OFF.
6. To set the temp to 165 °F (74 °C): Keep the ‘No.2 and 3’ DIP switches ON and ‘No. 1’ OFF.
7. To set the temp to 135 °F (57 °C): Ensure the ‘No.1 and 2’ DIP switches are OFF and ‘No. 3’ is ON
