I’ve discussed all the solutions in detail in the next segment. You’ll find solutions for gas, electric, and RV Camplux water heaters.

Why Is My Camplux Tankless Water Heater Leaking Water?

Your Camplux water heater can leak for many reasons. From poor installation processes to defective T&P valves, anything can be the culprit.

Here’s a full description of the possible reasons and respective solutions for your water heater’s leaking issue.

Reason 1: Poor Installation Process

The most common reason for Camplux Water Heater leaking is improper installation. If you don’t set up the valves and pipes in the correct order, the water heater can’t function properly.

Even though the Camplux water heaters are tankless, water will drip from the faucets, pipes, or inlet/outlets.

So, what should you do in this case? Yes, install the water heater in the correct order again.

How To Fix:

In order to correct the installation process, first, you need to turn off your water heater. Disconnect the water and gas (if applicable) supplies. Unscrew the joints and take out the water heater.

Now, you’ll have to reinstall the water heater. But this time you’ll do it in the correct order.

The installation process differs for Camplux gas, electric, and RV water heaters. I’ve included 3 of the installation processes at the end of the article so that you know which one to follow.

Reason 2: High Water Pressure

Again, high water pressure is another reason your Camplux tankless water heater is leaking. Sometimes, when the water heater gets too hot, it produces steam filling the empty spaces.

As a result, the water feels a heavy pressure. Eventually, you see water leaking from the water heater.

How To Fix:

So, the main solution here is to purge out the air created by the steam. To do this, you need to follow the steps below.

Step 1: First, you need to close all the drain plugs and faucets of the water heater.

Step 2: Then, open the water heater drain plug and the filter cover.

Step 3: At this point, you can also install a bypass valve to evacuate the air inside. However, it’s an optional step for RV water heaters.

Let the air blow out and your water heater will be safe from any water leakage.

Now, you can test if the water heater is still leaking by following the steps below.

Step 1: First, you need to turn on the hot water faucet.

Step 2: After that, open the cold water supply valve.

Step 3: Let the tank be filled with water by water flowing out of the faucet.

Step 4: Then, close the hot water systems.

Step 5: Finally, you have to check if there’s any water dripping out of the system.

If there’s no leakage, that means you saved your water heater!

Reason 3: Malfunctioning Components

Apart from wrong installation and water pressure issues, leakage can happen due to faulty components.

First of all, if the pipes are loose, the water will drip from the pipe. The same happens when the water heater gets cracked or damaged.

Again, a defective T&P relief valve can also be the culprit. You should also keep an eye on a leaking drain valve.

Sometimes the gaskets become loose or get damaged. Finally, a faulty cold and hot water outlet will also make the water heater drip.

How To Fix:

So, if you notice any of the mentioned components get damaged or loose, you have to either fix them or replace them.

In case the pipes have loose connections, you should use a wrench to tighten them.

However, you have to think of a replacement if the pipes get cracked. The same goes for damaged T&P relief valves.

If the water heater, the inlet, or the outlets are damaged, you should change the water heater immediately.

For brand-new water heater failures, you must contact the Camplux support center. They’ll fix the issue if it falls under their warranty service.

Now, let’s move on to the Camplux Water Heater installation process as we’ve discussed earlier.

First, let’s start with the Camplux gas water heater installation.

How To Install Camplux Tankless Gas Water Heater?

For installing a Camplux tankless gas water heater, you have to follow the following steps correctly.

Step 1: First, take the water heater and mount it vertically on a wall.

mount camplux water heater vertically on a wall

Remember that the Camplux Water Heater weighs around 14 pounds. So, the wall or fence should be able to carry the weight of the water heater.

Also, it should be at a comfortable height so that the gas hose doesn’t get stressed.

Step 2: Now, if you want to permanently mount the unit, use screws to attach the bottom tab firmly to the wall.

Step 3: Then, take the garden hose and attach the adaptor to the water inlet connection. Make sure you use a rubber gasket on the fittings to make it secure.

Now, make sure you don’t over-tighten the gas connections. Otherwise, you’ll face dangerous gas leakage problems. Only use the pressure regulator and the hose that comes with this water heater.

Caution: If you notice any smell of gas, turn off the valve immediately. You have a gas leakage problem and you need to fix it right away.

Step 6: After setting up the gas and water supply hoses, you need to insert 2D batteries.

Step 7: Finally, adjust the water and gas control knobs. And you’re done with the installation!

Now, if you have an electric Camplux Water Heater, you should follow the next segment.

How To Install Camplux Electric Water Heater?

Before we begin with the steps, you must know that this installation process is applicable for Camplux ME10, ME25, ME40, and ME60 water heater models.

So, here are the steps you need to follow to set up your Camplux Electric Water Heater.

Step 1

First, you have to mount the water heater to a wall using the supplied screws. Make sure you use the appropriate screws according to the wall material and the weight of the water heater.

Camplux electric water heaters have different weight measurements. Take a look at the list below so that you don’t make any mounting mistakes.

  • ME10=24 lbs
  • ME25=41 lbs
  • ME40=57 lbs
  • ME60=76 lbs

You have to install the water heater in a vertical position. Hang on the brackets and keep the water heater facing downwards. Ensure that the fingers of the brackets are properly resting in the mounting slots.

Note: You can install Camplux ME10, ME25, ME40, and ME60 water heater models under the sink. But the installation should be at least 8” to 9” from the mounting wall or ceiling. It’s for leaving enough room for maintenance.

Step 2

Now, it’s time to connect the pipes. The cold water inlet pipe will go to the inlet nipple with a blue ring marked on it.

Similarly, you have to install the hot water outlet pipe to the red ring outlet nipple.

Step 3

Then, install the Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve (T&P Valve) to a marked opening. Make sure the discharge is 6 inches above the valve.

However, you must ensure the T&P Valve is certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory. And the pressure should not exceed 150 PSI.

Step 4

After that, open the hot water faucets on the fixtures. Keep them open until water flows out. This will release all the air inside.

Then, you need to fill the water heater with water. Make sure, the water doesn’t leak.

Step 5

Next, plug the water heater power cord into a grounded outlet. It should be attached to only a 120V power supply.

That’s it! Your electric water heater is ready to use.

Special Note: You must be aware of the installation difficulty while switching from electric to gas water heaters. In this case, you have to have space for the gas line and a vent.

Though the tank installation is the same for the two water heaters, you might have to cut or drill in the walls for the gas pipes. It will increase the cost and time to do such a procedure.

So, now we’ll move on to the RV Camplux water heater installation process.

How To Install Camplux RV Water Heater?

Setting up an RV Camplux Water heater isn’t too complicated. Here’s what you need to do to install Camplux RV Water Heaters.

Step 1

First, you have to turn off the circuit breaker. Do this to avoid any electrical shocks.

Step 2

Then, take the gas supply line and connect it to the water heater inlet valve. Make sure the gas valve is off before you connect the gas line to the heater. You should use a wrench to tighten the gas line further.

Step 3

After that, turn on the water supply of your RV. Keep the hot water faucet on so that there’s no air inside.

Step 4

Next, you have to turn on the water heater. Turn the circuit breaker. You can also flip the switch to power the water heater. This will start heating the water in the water heater.

Step 5

Then, turn the temperature control knob to adjust the temperature of the water heater. For increasing the temperature, turn the knob clockwise and counterclockwise to decrease it.

Step 6

In this step, you have to monitor the water heater temperature. Keep adjusting the knob if the water heater hasn’t heated to your desired temperature.

Step 7

Finally, turn off the water heater as soon as the water heater reached your preferred temperature.

This is how you can ensure the correct installation process of your Camplux water heater.

How To Prevent Camplux Water Heater Leakage Issue?

By following rules and ensuring regular maintenance, you can prevent Camplux Water Heater leakage issues in the future. So, here’s what you need to take care of.

  • You must ensure the water pressure is accurate for your water heater. The minimum water pressure for Camplux Water Heaters is 14 PSI with at least a water flow rate of 0.75 GPM.
  • In case you want to supply hot water upstairs, you have to add 0.44 PSI / FT. The additional pressure is for the long pipe runs.
  • For well water systems, you should maintain water pressure at the 50-60 PSI range.
  • You must ensure there’s no air inside the water heater or the pipes connected.
  • You should keep the water filter clean and at its designated place.
  • Make sure all of the pipes have secured connections with gaskets.
  • You must use the materials that come with the water heater. Wrong pipe and valve sizes will cause leakage issues.
  • Insulate all of the water pipes. Make sure you don’t reverse the cold and hot water pipes at any cost.
  • Check the pressure relief valve every once in a while if it’s damaged. It should connect the discharge line to the open drain.
  • Ensure that the discharge lines are protected from freezing.
  • The pipes should have larger diameter sizes than the water supply connections of the water heater.
  • The pipes should be able to drain completely.
  • You should use pressure-resistant pipes for connecting to the water inlet and outlet water pipes. Don’t forget to place the rubber ring on the pipes.

So, by following these requirements, you can prevent any water leaking issues in your Camplux water heater.

What To Do If Your Camplux Water Heater Is Leaking Gas?

Sometimes you can also face Camplux water heater gas leak issues. It’s more dangerous than the water leakage problem.

Before we move on to the solution, you must know how to detect a gas leak first.

i) How To Detect Gas Leak Issues In Camplux Water Heater?

Natural gas and Propane have odorants for gas leak detection. So, when there’s a gas leak, you’ll sense a strong odor. You can sniff near the gas fittings and the nearby floor to confirm the gas leak.

However, sometimes the odorants can have less intensity. It becomes hard to smell the gas in such a situation.

Now, by applying a simple bubble test, you can be 100% sure if there’s a gas leak. What you have to do is make a soapy solution and apply it to the gas fittings and connections. If you notice any bubbles forming, this means your water heater is leaking gas.

Note that you should perform more than one method to confirm a gas leak. Even after smelling the odorant, you should perform a bubble test or install gas detectors in your water heater.

ii) What Should You Do If There’s A Gas Leak?

So, if you’ve confirmed your water heater has a gas leak, here’s what you have to do.

  • Keep the water heater in the OFF position.
  • Put out any flames nearby.
  • You must turn off any cylinder fuel supply connections to the water heater.
  • Open all the doors and windows to vent out the gas.
  • Let the gas dissipate for at least 5 minutes.
  • Call the nearby service professionals or the fire department to look into this matter.
  • Leave the area with your family and pet immediately.
  • Stay away from the building until the problem has been solved.

iii) What Shouldn’t You Do If There’s A Gas Leak?

There are a few safety precautions you need to take in order to avoid any unwanted accidents. So, here are the things you should never do if you sense a gas leak from Camplux Water Heater.

  • Don’t try to light the water heater.
  • You shouldn’t try to find the cause of the gas leak.
